Welcome to Spring in London, a time for wisteria hysteria! The stunning lilac-coloured flower frames iconic London homes. As I’ve lived in Kensington, that is where a lot of my recommendations are – but I think it’s safe to say, it’s one of the best areas for Instagrammable wisteria. Spring in London is a stunning time, and you can find my Guide to London Magnolia here and Guide to London Blossom here.
WISTERIA IN KENSINGTON, STAFFORD TERRACE
Wisteria blooms everywhere in London but the most epic place is Stafford Terrace in Kensington on the corner. It is SO beautiful you will want to move in! This seemed to flower early this year in late April, so I suggest keeping an eye on the weather and heading over early morning. There’s a lot of lovely wisteria spots in London but this one is THE BEST. Flowering from the end of April, this corner gets a lot of sun so bring your shades as it can be a challenging shot! You can also leave a donation to the home owners if you’re shooting outside 😊

PINK DOOR WITH WISTERIA – BEDFORD GARDENS, KENSINGTON
In April, this is an epic spot, combining wisteria and a pink door. This is Bedford Gardens and combines our two great loves – stacks of wisteria and a pink front door.

WISTERIA AT KYNANCE MEWS, SOUTH KENSINGTON
This cobbled street is Instagram famous for the stunning wisteria against dark bricks and turquoise coloured windows and shutters. This location has apparently been used for Joe’s apartment in Netflix’s YOU when he lived in London – lucky guy! The wisteria is breathtaking so enjoy a stroll in this area.

WISTERIA AT GORDON PLACE, KENSINGTON
This cute little street has two spots for wisteria. Halfway down there’s a beautifully framed house. And at the very bottom of the street there’s another overload of purple wisteria which is stunning.

Around the corner from Stafford Terrace is a more modest wisteria moment that still makes for a pretty photo. Perfect for that chic, understated shot.

WISTERIA AT STANLEY GARDENS, NOTTING HILL
Stanley Gardens is a very white, clean, luxury location in Notting Hill. You might have heard of it before as Stanley Crescent has the most incredible cherry blossom tree – read more here. It is also the location of this perfectly positioned wisteria on Stanley Gardens. Very chic!

WISTERIA AT PORTOBELLO ROAD, NOTTING HILL
At the top of Portobello Road near the spectacular bright yellow Sun in Splendour Pub is this wisteria on the corner. The royal blue door really makes this stand out.

There’s a few smaller, cuter photogenic wisteria spots around here. Definitely worth a stroll if you’re in the area, and you might find a secret gem nobody’s snapped yet.

CHEYNE WALK, CHELSEA
Cheyne Walk is a very famous and historic street in Chelsea which is right next to the river Thames. So hello location goals! As well as being home to famous faces from Henry VIII to the Rolling Stones, it also has incredible wisteria and stunning gardens. I’ve also included Fifty Cheyne which has wisteria decorations outside the beautifully blue Instagrammable restaurant.

ST LEONARD’S TERRACE, CHELSEA
Head for the blue plaque for Bram Stoker on St Leonard’s Terrace for photogenic wisteria. There’s several houses on this Chelsea street which have vibrant spring gardens.

OLD PALACE LANE, RICHMOND, LONDON
This quaint street in Richmond has several stunning purple wisteria trees on it. Old Palace Road has a lovely pub called the White Swan which also has bright flowers outside it. There’s a little row of cottage style houses with wisteria on every house. I found actual heaven in the special house with lemon roses making the perfect spring garden.

HOLLAND PARK
This park is a beautifully manicured garden full of colour and character. Come spring, there’s a wisteria-covered archway in the Dutch Garden. The brightly coloured gardens are filled with rainbow tulips and you might also spot the Holland Park peacocks too! Check out the Kyoto Gardens while you are there too.

OSTERLEY PARK
On the Piccadilly Line is Osterley Park, a National Trust house with stunning grounds. This shoot was from 2015 and had the most dreamy wisteria climbing up the red brick facade.

KENWOOD HOUSE, HAMPSTEAD HEATH
Excuse the photos – I need to go back! There’s lovely wisteria at Kenwood House, blooming across the house exterior into the gardens. You’ll also find it covering the nearby Hill Garden and Pergola too – such a romantic spring walk.

RHS WISLEY
If you’re happy to travel a little bit out of London, RHS Wisley in Woking is so beautiful with lovely wisteria in the gardens. And there is a stunning Bridgerton style walkway, if you can catch it at the right time!

Final Tips for Wisteria Hunting in London
- Wisteria typically blooms from mid-to-late April into early May.
- Mornings are best for soft light and quiet streets.
- Always be respectful when photographing residential properties.
- Plan your route to catch the best light (and hopefully fewer crowds!)
- Wear whatever you like! But I love a white outfit or pastels with a bit of wisteria!
