An Autumn Walk Through Mayfair and Fitzrovia, London

Floral displays, fall fashion, and cosy corners in the heart of the city

Welcome to autumn in London, a season made for golden light, cappuccinos, and exploring the prettiest streets. I’m Claire and the City, and in today’s walk we’re following a beautiful route from Oxford Circus through Mayfair’s floral displays to the charming cafes of Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia.

It’s a perfect half-day stroll which is about 13,000 steps, starting around 9 am and ending just after lunch. If you love flowers, fashion, and seasonal decor, this walk is full of inspiration.

📍 Start: Oxford Circus
📍 End: Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia
Best for: A crisp, sunny autumn morning
🚶‍♀️ Steps: Around 13,000 (3.5 hours with photo stops)

🌸 Maddox Gallery, Maddox Street

Our first stop is Maddox Gallery, one of the most iconic floral façades in London and their autumn display for 2025 doesn’t disappoint.

Think red, orange, lilac, and pink roses, with hydrangeas and orchids climbing high up the building. It’s part of Maddox Gallery’s 10-year anniversary celebration, and it’s truly spectacular.

💡 My Tip: Come early in the morning before the traffic builds up Maddox Street is busy, and the display is so tall that it’s best to shoot from an angle.

🖼️ Sotheby’s on Bond Street

Just a short walk away, Sotheby’s often features incredible public exhibitions. On our visit, it was hosting a surrealist art and furniture show, complete with a striking golden eye installation on the exterior.

Even better, entry is free, and there’s a lovely café inside which is perfect for a quick coffee break while soaking up some culture.

🛍️ Bond Street’s Autumn Fashion Displays

You can’t visit Mayfair in autumn without strolling down Bond Street, where fashion houses like Hermès, Dior, Burberry, and Louis Vuitton unveil their autumn displays.

The creativity in each window is extraordinary, and early mornings are ideal for admiring the details (and maybe a little window shopping).

💫 What to Wear in London in Autumn:
Londoners mix timeless and practical style with jeans with pumps, skirts with boots, and cosy capes or coats. A hat, sunglasses, and umbrella are absolute essentials for the season’s unpredictable weather!

💎 Burlington Arcade – The Jewel of Mayfair

Continue to Burlington Arcade, one of Mayfair’s most elegant covered shopping streets. Its Jewel of Mayfair display this year celebrates jeweller Stephen Webster with rich, jewel-toned decor that perfectly complements the autumn palette.

Pop through to the Royal Arcade next door for a quick peek into the charming chocolate shop that features a model of Big Ben. It’s a hidden gem worth seeing.

🍃 Berkeley Square & Annabel’s

As you wander across Berkeley Square, take in the changing leaves and quiet charm. A rare pocket of calm amid Mayfair’s bustle.

Just around the corner, you’ll find Annabel’s, famous for its extravagant seasonal façades. Their Amazon-inspired autumn installation was breathtaking this year, and their Instagram always announces new designs.

🌷 Neill Strain Floral Couture

No Mayfair walk is complete without a visit to Neill Strain Flowers on Davies Street. Their boutique smells heavenly and always features spectacular floral arches that change with the seasons.

Neill Strain also has a second boutique in Belgravia, which is a must-see if you love floral artistry.

💐 Wild Things Flowers & Claridge’s

Across the street, Wild Things Flowers is another Mayfair favourite which I adore their overflowing flower buckets and seasonal arrangements.

💡 Insider tip: It’s right next to Claridge’s, so stop to admire their autumn displays — they always do something elegant and understatedly beautiful for the season.

🌿 From Mayfair to Fitzrovia

From Claridge’s, we walked about 20 minutes to Charlotte Street, passing Mr Fogg’s Botanical Bar, which has a lush green stairway bursting with foliage and fairy lights.

Our final stop was Goode Flowers, one of Fitzrovia’s prettiest floral boutiques. Their deep purples, leafy greens, and rich red tones were a perfect finale to our floral-themed walk.

Charlotte Street itself is full of charm — a mix of cafés, independent restaurants, and old London pubs. The Charlotte Street Hotel is particularly lovely for a post-walk coffee or glass of wine.
