Your Guide to Wimbledon Tennis & Village Life

Wimbledon is one of the most iconic tennis tournaments in the world — but it’s also so much more than just a two-week sporting event. Whether you’re a tennis fanatic or simply looking for a quintessential British day out, this guide will show you how to soak up the best of Wimbledon, including how to get there, what to see (even outside tournament season), where to eat and drink, and how to capture those perfect Instagrammable moments.

How to Get to Wimbledon Tennis

🚆 The closest station to the Wimbledon Tennis Grounds isn’t actually Wimbledon — it’s Southfields! Hop on the District Line and get off at Southfields for a 20-minute walk to the tennis grounds. Alternatively, you can arrive at Wimbledon Station, which is a slightly longer but still manageable walk (30 minutes) or a quick bus ride.

If you’re planning your trip during tournament time, trains run frequently, and the route is well-signposted.

What’s It Like During the Championships?

🎾 Wimbledon tickets are famously hard to get — but not impossible! You can enter the annual ballot, or join the famous Wimbledon Queue, where people literally camp overnight for same-day tickets. (Yes, there are toilets, food trucks, and all the essentials in the queue area.) You can also buy grounds passes after 5pm for a more relaxed visit — perfect for sunset views on Henman Hill (or Murray Mound, depending on your era!).

Want the royal treatment? You’ll need a sponsor invite, a pricey debenture ticket… or a crown. 👑

Visiting Wimbledon Tennis Grounds Outside the Championships

If you’re visiting at any other time of year, book a 90-minute guided tour and visit the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum. Tickets cost £30 and include:

  • Centre Court (yes, THE Centre Court!)

  • Court 1 and Court 18

  • Henman Hill / Murray Mound

  • The stunning “Serving Ace” tree sculpture

  • The iconic gift shop and museum

  • The Wingfield Café for a post-tour champagne moment 🥂

You’ll get plenty of photo ops with time built in for snapping those Centre Court shots.

Wimbledon Village: Where the Players Eat and Locals Hang Out

After your tour, take the scenic walk up to Wimbledon Village. This elegant little high street is a blend of local charm and star-studded glamour — Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova have both been spotted here.

Where to Eat & Drink

  • Maison St Cassien – Mediterranean mezze with seating in the sun.

Where to Shop and Snap Photos
